Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment

The Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) forms a key component of the evidence base for the Local Plan and its production is a requirement of the National Planning Policy Framework. The assessment provides evidence to local authorities when identifying future sources of land with housing or economic development potential.

The Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment is a technical 'policy off' report that provides background evidence on potential housing land but is not a decision making document and does not allocate sites for development.

Previously, Oadby and Wigston Borough Council has published an annual Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA), assessing only land as being suitable for housing. This is now being replaced by a Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) which incorporates economic land into the assessment.

Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment

Each year the Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment report is updated to illustrate the Council's current position (as of 1 April). The following document is the latest published Council Strategic Housing Land Availability report.
